Sleepless In...Oceanside

Okay, I don't know what's up with my kiddo, but he DEFINITELY isn't sleeping as much as {I think} he should! He has never been a great sleeper, but had arrived at the point of sleeping about 11 hours at night (from 9pm to 8am) and almost 2 hour nap each day. During what must have been a growth spurt (judging by the enormous intake of food and the shortening of his jeans!) that got even better.
But that growth spurt is definitely over!
Now, he barely eats...and his sleeping is even less. We're talking *maybe* asleep by 10pm, and up by 6 (I need more sleep than that at night, so i can't win!) and then *maybe* a 1 1/2 hour nap if I'm lucky. So. Not. Cool. Then, about once a week (totally unpredictably...and, may I add at the most inconvenient times!) he gets a mini reset and naps for closer to three hours. And then we're back to the squeeze-every-second-out-of-every-day routine. Ugh, crazy kid!
I'm sure this is just a phase, but we are already in week 6 of the phase, and I'm really over it.
Is this normal?

(before the lack-of-sleep bug hit...
btw, his blue lips are from the lollipop he got for going poopoo in the potty :))

  1. Just saw this post. From my limited:) experience, children do have a wide range of "normal" for total sleep needs. You have to look at the total hours-- nap + night. So it sounds like your little guy maybe needs an average of 10 hrs sleep total per day, right? Is he on the short side of average for height or no? Some kids really don't need the 12 hrs or what ever is "average" for Jadon's age. Allison has long been one of those 10 hrs total kids, unless she gets really really really worn out. A fair number of kids stop napping around 3, so if you want Jadon to sleep longer at night in the long term, I suspect you could try cutting out the nap. That can be a mess for a while, though. It's hard having a high energy kid that doesn't sleep much!! Hang in there!!
